SAT 10-WEEK PREP COURSE

POWWOW has partnered with SAJ Tutoring to provide a 10-week comprehensive SAT prep course to students of POWWOW parents.

Stephen A. Johnson Tutoring proposes to initiate an innovative approach to SAT preparation for high school students in the Westchester/Playa de Rey area. Our purpose is to provide students who may not be financially able to participate in traditional SAT preparation courses with a course that enriches their personal study at a fraction of the cost.

We will employ a university styled learning environment from which every student can benefit from the insights of their peers while also being encouraged to ask questions. Our intent is to provide structure to students who are motivated to succeed. Classes will be conducted twice each week for 2 hours per session. Each class will consist of instruction on a single SAT subject (i.e. Critical Reading, Mathematics, and Writing) and will allow ample opportunity for mastery of the topics discussed. All necessary materials including study materials, notebooks, and pencils will be provided to each registered student. Every other week we will conduct a full-length SAT practice exam.

The purpose of this exam is to: 1) to prepare each student for the demands of taking a timed standardized test, 2) to allow each student to implement the test taking strategies presented in class, and 3) to objectively and quantitatively track the progress of each student. Additional time, office hours, will be made available for students who desire additional help on a weekly basis (TBA).

The proposed course will prepare students for the October 6, 2007 and June 7, 2008 test dates. The start dates for the 10-week course will be July 27, 2007 and March 28, 2008 respectively.
